Pilgrimage of the Virgin of Tíscar

Pilgrimage of the Virgin of Tíscar

The Pilgrimage toHonor of the Virgin of Tiscar is celebrated during the second weekend of June and makes La Vila Joiosa full of colour, flavours and art of Andalusia. The festival begins with the pilgrimage-offering. In the streets carriages, horses, regional costumes, flowers and music to honor the Virgin of Tiscar, who for a few days will preside over 'the fair stand', set up for the occasion, in the 'Xarquet' enclosure.

This pilgrimage was born 30 years ago thanks to a group of “vileros” (locals) , originally coming from the town of Quesada (Jaén) in Andalusia, who wanted to honor their patron saint and share the tradition, culture and folklore of their hometown with their neighbors. Over the years, their children, nowadays natives of La Vila, continue the tradition, ensuring everybody enjoys it for a few days.

From Thursday to Sunday the fair is filled with attractions that delight kids and adults in town. Throughout the day, activities and games for children, competitions and tastings such as “migas” (crumbs), or oil tasting, beer festival, tapas, music, dances .... At night great concerts with renowned artists and fireworks. Of course, chocolate will be given out to flavour the festival.

On Sunday the Rocio Mass puts an end to this celebration that is very important to the “vileros” and neighbors in the region, and is nowadays an essential event in the festive calendar of the town.
