CHRISTMAS

CHRISTMAS

When December arrives La Vila Joiosa gets ready for Christmas. Lights and carols adorn the streets creating a special atmosphere, and the colours of Christmas fill every corner of the city. These are days of reunions, days to share and enjoy with friends and family. That is why La Vila Joiosa offers us in December different possibilities to make the most of Christmas.

Craft fairs with activities for children, concerts, theatre and shows at the Teatre Auditori, chocolate in the Old Town, street shows for children to write their letters to Santa Claus and / or the Three Kings, Christmas parades, solidarity activities .... A wide range of 'Christmas sweets' to savour in our Christmas agenda

But, as we said, Christmas in La Vila Joiosa has a special flavour, and it is not a cliché. For example at noon on Christmas Eve, it is a 'tradition' to go out for tapas with friends in the bars and terraces of the city centre, creating a very special and particular atmosphere. The music in the streets and the magic of Christmas turn this Christmas Eve afternoon into a date that nobody wants to miss.

The particularities of Christmas in La Vila continue on New Year's Eve. The traditional 12 grapes in La Vila Joiosa have a very special stage: the old town, declared of Cultural Interest, and one of the best preserved in the Valencian Community. The Church Square, down the clock tower of the Levantine Gothic Fortress Church, surrounded by the colours of the facades of the traditional houses, is the perfect setting to say goodbye to the year and the best place to welcome the new year. In addition to the setting, the City Council and the Association of the Vila Vella take care of all the details: cotillion, grapes, music and dances, bars at good prices ... and above all, a very good atmosphere and fun.

La Vila Joiosa also hosts the days before January 6 the “ Campamento de los Reyes Magos” (Camp of the Three Wise Men). For a few days La Vila Joiosa becomes the heart of Christmas in the Marina Baixa area, when the Three Kings´ assistants set up their camp in town to organise gifts, coal, parades ... This camp was created by two festive companies, and is full of activities and entertainment for the young and the elderly people. Also the Three Kings Parade starts from there, the afternoon of January 5 and goes through the streets of the city leaving a trace of illusion, fantasy and good wishes.

At the end of the day you can not miss a good hot chocolate served with the “roscón” ( a typical Kings day cake) and wait for the gifts. Definitely the final attraction for a very special Christmas.
